At least two Italian sailors were injured
The attacked vessel is Remas, owned by Micoperi, whose headquarters are in Ravenna, Italy. The vessel supplies offshore oil rig supplies, measures 75 meters and weighs 2,600 tons. It was built in 2011 in Turkey. According to local sources, two Italian sailors were injured but not life-threatening. One was hit in the knee and the other in the head by the pirates, who were in a group of 7 or 8 people.
About 35 sailors and crew members were on board at the time of the attack, nine of them of Italian origin and one officer from the Mexican merchant navy. They managed to react and avoid the robbery. "Farnesina's crisis unit is following the episode very closely, along with the Italian embassy in Mexico City," the Italian Foreign Ministry said.
